Bollore Country Manager Shower Praises on Sierra Leonean Staff

The Country Manager of Bollore Transport and Logistics Group Sierra Leone Fabjanko Kokan has expressed esteem sense of appreciation to Sierra Leonean staff working for the company. He disclosed this sentiment to galaxy of journalists at their Freetown Terminal office East of Freetown on Tuesday 17th September, 2019.


He revealed that 98 per cent of their staff cut across from managerial, middle and lower levels are all Sierra Leonean and are extremely professional in the area of human resource, finance, operations, safety and machinery operation. He dismissed the wide spread rumors that Sierra Leone does not have people with skills that can handle sophisticated equipment in a highly mechanize company like Bollore.


Mr. Kokan mentioned that since the company started operations in Sierra Leone in the area of handling the container section at the Sierra Leone Port, there has not been any major accident within their scope of operation since 2011 to date. The press was informed that staff at the Company are operating machines worth over 10 Million Dollars and they have been handling them with care and operate them with no issues. "At Bollore, we respect our staff that is why we have invested over 1million dollars just on staff training in and out of the country" says Bollore Country Manager.


He added that the success of every business is the investment of human capital and Bollore strongly believes in that. "Here at Bollore, we are family not just simply a company"  says Kokan. He continued to disclose that the company pays their staff on time, takes care of their medical insurance including four dependents of every staff member. The company has a clear health and safety policy that guides the daily operations at the company. This policy has helped a lot as Zero fatality recorded since they started operating in the country.


The company spends over 2 billion Leone yearly on staff medical.


When talking about their operation at the Port the Country Manager noted that they are now recording 55,000 vessels per year and that the cost they charge per 1x20 Container is 1% of the total cost of the goods in the container.


He used the occasion to disclose to the media that they will be organizing a Marathon on the 25th of September 2019, and that proceeds from the event will be used to support the cause of vulnerable children in Sierra Leone.


Mr. Fajanko recounted that the Freetown Terminal with an investment of over 150 million United States dollars has all the space, equipment and facilities, and are now looking to attract more vessels into the country.


Other representatives from the company also answered questions around handling charges for each Container, Tax Compliance, Corporate Social Responsibility and other humanitarian gestures they have undertaken since they came to the country in 2011.
