AIDS Health Foundation (AHF) www.aidshealth.org/#/ a non-governmental HIV prevention, treatment and advocacy international organization working in Sierra Leone that gives free HIV care to people living with the virus has appealed for more support in the fight against Ebola particularly so to orphans, survivors and affected families. The organization made this appeal on Wednesday 3rd December, 2014 when making cash donation to the Family of the Late Dr. Sheirk Umar Khan towards the education of his two children. The donation was made at the Khan’s family house at Mahera Town, Lungi in Port Loko district.
Speaking to this press in an exclusive interview after she handed over Le 28,000,000, an equivalent of USD 6000 to the family of late Dr. Umar Khan, the Country Program Manager for AHF in Sierra Leone Miatta Jambawai said the Ebola epidemic has affected everyone and every facet of life in the country, but people directly affected like the family of late Dr. Khan, needs more support.

“The money is to support the education of the two children of the late Dr. Khan” says Mrs. Jambawai.
AHF Country Program Manager intimated that this year’s “World AIDS Day” looked at how to support people living with HIV/AIDS and people affected with Ebola. She admitted that late Dr. Khan was their consultant who was appreciated by all the HIV/AIDS patients he had treated.
She made it clear to the family that the late Dr. Khan worked with her organization as a Medical Consultant and was very supportive and served with compassion. The said amount included his July salary of Le 5,000,000 which he did not received before he died. She described the death of Dr. Khan as an eye opener to the international community for putting more efforts to the fight against Ebola in Sierra Leone.

Speaking on behalf of the Khan’s family after receiving the donation, the elder sister of the late Virologist Mrs. Mariama khan-Lahai said that they appreciated the donation considering the service their brother rendered to the nation before he kissed the dust. She reassured that the donation will be used towards educating the two kids of her late brother noting especially that his son Sheik Umar Khan Jr. desires to become a medical doctor like his late dad.

Since the death of her brother, AHF is the only NGO that had done such a donation specifically for the education of her brother’s two children. Mrs. Kahn- Lahia added that the donation is not all what matters as they appreciated the sympathy AHF has shown to them.
Late Dr. Kahn’s sister disclosed further that she is very proud of her brother because of the work he had done for this country and her people and described him as somebody “very warm and nice”. She further noted that her late brother was very helpful not just to his family and patients but to everyone around him.
