Sierra Leone national side, Leone Stars outshines the `Pirate` of Seychelles 2-0 in the second round of first leg encounter in the ongoing 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier in Freetown on Saturday.
It wasn’t the perfect start for the home side, as Seychelles used their defensive tactics to move backward in the first half, but after the recess a perfect strike from Baliksespor midfielder Khalifa Jabbie alerted the away nation to change their defensive tactics.
Dynamo Minsk midfielder Umaru Bangura doubles the home side lead from the penalty spot after Ibrahim `Teteh` Bangura was fouled in the danger area. The visitors atrocious defending prevented the home side from penetrating in their defense.
Middlesbrough striker Kei Kamara twice hit the woodwork which could have shattered the visitors’ hopes of progressing to the group stage of the qualifiers.
Head coach of Sierra Leone told journalists: “It was important to counter the visitors` passion and defensive tactics with calmness, patience and persistence,” Jonny Mckinstry said. Their defensive strategy works in the first half but we succeeded in our approach in the early stage of the second half.
“We could have score more goals hadn`t been the good performance by Vincent Euphausie. We are almost there (Group stage) but we will apply a dissimilar approach in the second,”
Ulric Mathoit head coach of Seychelles told journalists that Sierra Leone are better than his side. “They have quality players and they outshined us in both halves. Asked whether his side can overturn the 2-0scoreline, he replied; “Why not” Mathoit questioned.
“Our defensive tactics worked in the first half but the home side approach after the recess outweighs our tactics. We are going back home to correct were we went wrong. I`m confident of overturning the result even we are expecting a tough approach from Sierra Leone.
