As part of Sierratel’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and the need to support Sierra Leone’s media, the country’s only national telecommunications company has sponsored the just concluded SLAJ Annual General Meeting Dinner held at the Wusum Hotel in Makeni.
In a very colourful event in Makeni, that hosted several government functionaries, SLAJ was able to successfully stage its dinner courtesy of Sierratel’s sponsorship. Notably in attendance were the Chief Adviser to the President Hon.Ibrahim Kargbo, the Resident Minister North, Mr.Alie.D.Kamara, the Minister of Lands and Country Planning, Mr.Musa Tarawallie, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr.Sheka Tarawallie and the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Mrs. Marie Jalloh.
The event was also graced by SLAJ membership, corporate houses and other stakeholders. Climaxed by musical entertainment to the amusement of attendees, it was by far a once in a life time experience with the support of our own national company, Sierratel.

In his sponsorship message, Sierratel’s Chief Commercial Officer,Mr.Bernard Sisay spoke of the how Sierratel values the media and how poised the company can jump into any opportunity to provide sponsorship to SLAJ.The Chief Commercial Officer furthered that Sierratel considers itself as a partner in development and will stop at nothing in supporting the aspirations of SLAJ as they believe that information is power.Mr.Sisay also spoke of how Sierratel has been rebranded over the course of the years to such an extent that the company won two prestigious awards in 2013.The company won the All Walks of Life (AWOL) Award as the best telecommunications company in the year 2013 and also the best company in the category of commerce as recognized by the Sierra Leone Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture.
With regards the company’s current product and services offerings, the Chief Commercial Officer informed the audience that Sierratel has the best and most competitive rates in Sierra Leone. For it costs only Le350 which is equivalent to 8 units to call not only from Sierratel to Sierratel and Sierratel to other networks, but also to call to USA, Canada and UK Landline for only Le350.What a remarkable offer!.For data and internet service, the chief acclaimed that Sierratel is, if not already, on the verge of taking over the data market in sierra Leone due to the company’s innovative data offerings. He furthered that Sierratel amongst other offers has the MIFI which is an “On the Move” wireless internet router that can serve up to 8 people on any wireless internet device such as laptop, IPAD, Smart phone.etc.
Additionally, Mr. Sesay spoke about the 3 in 1 device, which can be used as a mobile phone, used a mobile internet/browser and above all can serve as an internet modem to surf the internet.
On plans of upgrade and expansion of Sierratel’s network, the Chief Commercial Officer informed the audience about the company’s upgrade and expansion plans to take connectivity to areas that are not currently covered by Sierratel. He however hasten to mention that at the moment,Sierratel has a very reasonable coverage map in Sierra Leone,as coverage is not only limited in Freetown or the Western Area but also stretches to other provincial locations. To mention but a few he highlighted coverage areas such as Bo, Kenema, Makeni, Kono, Rutile, Njala, Moyamba, Magburaka, Mile 91, Waterloo and recently covered Tombo in the Peninsular.
On plans of effectively making use of the fiber optic to support speedy and cost-effective connectivity, the Chief Commercial Officer informed the audience that Sierratel currently offers the most competitive wholesale broadband package that supports Ministries, Departments and Agencies, NGOs, Corporate institutions and businesses.
On plans of the launching of the modernized landline service,Mr.Sisay lamented that Sierratel will be the only provider of mobile and fixed landline service in the country, a unique differentiator that should keep Sierratel away from the competition. He informed the audience that the new landline service will be on fiber with fast and speedy connectivity to support businesses and homes when commissioned.
In concluding, Mr. Sisay announced a sponsorship package of free broadband dedicated bandwidth connection for SLAJ HQ for a period of 12 months. This news was welcomed by a thunderous round of applauds by the audience in appreciation of Sierratel’s gesture to SLAJ.
