After progressively rebuilding its network with a team of committed local and international staff, Sierratel, the National Telecommunication Company, has repositioned itself as a leader in the telecommunication services industry with a recent bagging of the Sierra Leone Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture’s prestigious award of ‘Best Company’ for last year, 2013.
Sierratel won the award for its service of offering reliable and affordable voice and internet connectivity in the country.
The prestigious award was bestowed on Sierratel past Friday by the country’s Chamber of Commerce, during their annual dinner held at the Bintumani Hotel with President Ernest Bai Koroma in attendance.
The award further recognizes the company’s “outstanding achievements” in the commerce category 2013. Sierratel was in competition in this category with many other companies.
According to the citation of the award which was read out by the Master of Ceremony, a respected businessman and politician, Andrew Kaille, “Sierratel has been progressively rebuilding its network by carrying out optimization and expansion works to improve both voice and internet connectivity.”
In the data services sector, Sierratel has introduced various internet packages offering different speeds and prices with such services widely regarded as with good performance and being the most affordable in Sierra Leone. The company is said to have plans revamped the national fixed line telephone service in a modernized form to march the test of modern times.
The award according to the citation, is giving to Sierratel “in appreciation of its extensive services in the field of commerce particularly in the telecommunications sector”, by revitalizing its operations and offering its clients reliable and affordable internet services and for its plans to make such services more pervasive.
The Chamber was also cognizant of the unique part played in the country’s commerce sector by Sierratel for which the association of commercial entities was delightful and expressed best wishes to the award winner.
After receiving the coveted award from President Koroma, the Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sierratel, Adel Caher expressed delight for winning the award.
He dedicated the prize to the management and staff of the company for their valuable contributions to a thriving telecommunications operator that is currently providing maximum customer satisfaction.
The Managing Director and CEO also commended the Government of Sierra Leone for the support and assured that Sierratel will do more towards the improvement of the telecommunications sector in the country.
The annual dinner of the Sierra Leone Chamber of Commerce is the group’s flagship programme aimed at creating a platform for top private sector executives, government officers, diplomats, and small and medium enterprises to interact and discuss progress and challenges facing the private sector.
The company’s new marketing strategy has caused a dramatic increase in demand for Sierratel products for both voice and internet connectivity making her the fastest growing telecommunications company in the country.
However, Sierratel has been revitalized to the admiration of many Sierra Leoneans with a mad rush for its products and services across the country.
Earlier the President of the Sierra Leone Chamber of Commerce Industry and Agriculture, Mrs. Gladys Strasser King while delivering her dinner address spoke about progress and challenges facing the private sector in the country.
In his response the Grand Chief Patron of the occasion, President Koroma spoke about the improved business climate in the country and implored the private sector to be more innovative and assertive towards economic growth and sustainable development.
Africa Minerals and Sierra Rutile were also awarded by the national Chamber of Commerce.
