Minister of Sports, Paul Kamara has finally confessed that he actually supported Madam Isha Johansen for the presidency of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA).The run-up to the past SLFA elective congress was marred by disputes and allegation of political interference against the Sports Minister for supporting the eventual winner, Madam Johansen.
However, Minister Kamara admitted to journalists at yesterday's Ministry of Information and Communications press conference, while responding to questions, that he actually supported Madam Johansen because of her international connections.
He said: "I supported Isha Johansen because she is having a lot of [international] connections; and for somebody to become president of SLFA, that person must have such connections which can bring development in the game."
The minister further revealed that since President Koroma separated the Sports Ministry from that of the Youth Ministry, there has been no problembetween the players and the government as it used to be the case.
"Things are going on well between the players and the ministry. Since the president separated the ministry from that of Youth, the players are now very happy and there has been no grumble amongst them because we are treating them like heroes," Kamara stated.
