Deputy Minister of Sports Ishmael Al-Sankoh Conteh has set his sights in inspiring the various sporting disciplines to make mark in upcoming international competitions.
With Sierra Leone swimming pair-Sahr James and Osman Kamara – setting new national records in the just concluded international swimming competition in Barcelona Spain and the 6 medals won by the Sierra Leone athletics team in the just concluded marathon in Liberia, Mr. Sankoh said he is looking forward to receiving the medals in future international competitions.
He said “I am very much pleased with the performances of the swimmers and the athletics team in Barcelona and Liberia respectively,” he told this press.
He however called on other sporting disciplines to steadfast in emulate the good example of swimming and athletics.
The deputy minister further pledged his ministry’s support towards the sport and also promised the associations and athletes especially the swimming association that he will do all in his power to see that it has access to the pool at the National Stadium.
The association’s secretary General, Mohamed Turay who thanked the deputy Minister for his promise to them accessing the stadium pool, revealed that there are several international competitions lined up for the swimmers from September to December.
He said they will compete in a special invitation to Nigeria in November and also in the Junior African games, which will be hosted in the same month, as well as in the zone II Championship in Ivory Coast in December this year.
