Deputy Minister of Sports, Ishmael Al-Sankoh Conteh, has set his sights on receiving the first international swimming gold, silver or bronze medal for the country.
With Sierra Leone swimming pair - Sahr James and Osman Kamara - setting new national records in the just concluded international swimming competition in Barcelona, Spain, Mr. Sankoh said he is looking forward to receiving the medals in future international competitions.
He said: "I am very much pleased with your performance in Barcelona and more especially for your return after the competition. I hope with this performance I will soon receive swimming medals in future international competitions you may participate in."
The deputy minister further pledged his ministry's support towards the sport and also promised the association and swimmers that he will do all in his power to see that it has access to the pool at the National Stadium.
The association's secretary general, Mohamed Turay - who thanked the deputy minister for his promise to them accessing the stadium pool, revealed that there are several international competitions lined-up for the swimmers from September to December.
He said they will compete in a special invitation to Nigeria in November and also in the junior African games, which will be hosted in the same month, as well as in the Zone II Championship in Ivory Coast in December.
