Madam Isha Johanssen has called on Mohamed Kallon, Rodney Michael and Foday Turay to join her in changing football in Sierra Leone for the better.
Delivering her acceptance speech after the SLFA Elective Congress at the Kingtom Officers Mess where she went unopposed as the President f the Association after the disqualification of the three other candidates, Madam Johanssen said she is proud to become the first female President of the country’s Football Association and the second in the World an opportunity she described as very symbolic. “This was a fight not for power but a fight to preserve Sierra Leone and a fight to prove to all that Country’s Football is not up for sale.
She stated that her victory has marked a new chapter in the history of football, a time when the expectations of the fans is very much high and her Presidency will bring the dawn of the new era in the game in the country where collectively the much needed change will be effected in the beautiful game. “As much as we celebrate I want to use this holy month of Ramadan to appeal to my brothers Mohamed Kallon, Rodney Michael and Foday Turay to join me and in developing the game that they so loved because I do not have all the answers but they have some of the answers to address the many problems.”
Isha Johanssen appealed for peace between her and the others and called for the bickering and mudslinging to stop as there should be mutual respect and understanding despite the different views and shade of opinions during the campaigns for the elections adding that under her leadership the new Executive will be going to an extra ordinary congress to assess the activities of the past executive and develop and blue print that will chart the way forward. “It is like a football final where will only a winner and I have emerge as that winner so let move forward as a family and put the past behind us for the better because this was not a personality fight but a fight to change the face of Sierra Leonean Football and we have all won there is no looser.”She noted.
Meanwhile, Primo Cavaro Head of Football Associations at FIFA who was an observer registered his satisfaction with the process and commends the Normalization Committee whose mandate ends at the end of the elections. He congratulates Isha Johanssen on behalf of the FIFA President Sepp Blatter and assured her continued support to the Sierra Leone Football Association so as to help her develop the game in the country.
The 48 year-old Isha Johanssen Chief Executive Officer of Premier League side F.C Johanssen has made history by becoming the first female President of the Sierra Leone Football Association and the second female football association President in the world along with Lydia Nsekera of Burundi.
However, the three disqualified candidates of Rodney Michael, Mohamed Kallon and Foday Turay decided to boycott Saturday's polls in protest for an action which they described as illegal. Rodney in a telephone interview confirmed that he will be taking court action to ascertain whether the decision of the Normalization Committee to disqualify him was well interpreted. The other elected candidates were: Vice President 1 - Brima Mazola Kamara. Vice President 2 - Alie Mohamed Commoner Kargbo. Ex-Officio Members - Alhaji Nasiru-Deen Othman and Alie Badara Tarawallie.
