Aspirants for the August 3rd SLFA elective congress are to appear before the FIFA Normalization Committee at the football academy in King Tom for some unexplained screening exercise.
Speaking to this press via telephone, the Minster of Sports, Paul Kamara, insisted that Mohamed Kallon, Foday Turay, Idrissa Mago Tarawallie and hottest favorite, Rodney Michael should not be allowed to run for any position in the upcoming SLFA elective congress.
He maintained, “I have made my position clear to the Normalization Committee that the four of them should not be allowed to contest.”
When asked what if the Normalization Committee eventually clears the quartet, the Minister replied; “I`ll nullify the elections and wait for FIFA. How can we allow drug addicts and gamblers to run a reputable institution like the SLFA? I will take drastic steps against members of the Normalization Committee if they defy my orders,” Paul stated.
He continued, “I`m a government Minister and what ever decision I take reflects the mood of the government. Mohamed Kallon is a drug addict and corrupt individual while Foday Turay and Rodney Michael are notorious gamblers,” he said.
However, it is still a matter of wait-and–see whether members of the Normalization Committee will succumb to the Minister’s threats. One of the aspirants has said he has enormous respect for the Normalization Committee and was therefore not been worried about the minister’s threat.
FIFA, the world governing body, insists on separating politics and football which may seem a logical principle. However, there are times when this principle tends to hold the game back.
