East End Lions twenty years dominance over Diamond Stars was brought to an end as they suffered a shocking 1-0 defeat at the Koidu Community field on Wednesday in Kono.


It could be recalled that Diamond Stars last defeated East End Lions 1-0 in 1983 at the same venue.


Badara Kella Junior got the only goal that separated the two sides in the early minutes of the first half. East End Lions have secured a point in their last three matches while Diamond Stars have secured a draw and won twice.


Team Manager of Diamond Stars, Paramount Gaba Sarquee the victory was a memorable event for the people of Kono. “I`m happy to be part of this history, a step in the right direction as we are bent on defending the trophy the journey is far from over,”.
“We`re looking forward to win our coming matches to keep our hopes alive we will do all we could to keep the players and supporters happy”, he fumed.

However, Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) grabbed their first victory as they whitewashed Gem Stars 6-1 at the Wusum grounds while Bo Rangers convincely defeated Ports Authority 1-0 at the Bo Coronation grounds. Mighty Blackpool were held goalless by Freetown City FC, while JC Johansen secured consecutive wins as they came from behind to defeat Kamboi Eagles 2-1 at the SLFA Academy in Kingtom.


FC Johansen are now leveled on points with Diamond Stars with 7 points while Ports Authority, Bo Rangers, Gem Stars, Anti Drugs Strikers and Mighty Blackpool all with 4 points each.
