Member of Parliament for Constituency 96 and Chief Whip of Parliament, Hon. Claude Kamanda has told this press that he will continue to do more in promoting sports across the country.
It could be recalled that Hon. Claude Kamanda funded the Ernest Bai Koroma mini complex at Newton village, Western Rural. The complex comprises of a soccer pitch, basketball and handball courts including an athletic track that will enable young talents to showcase their talents.
According to him, newly promoted premier side, Anti Drugs will be hosting their home matches in this season`s premier league.
He said: “I decided to put up such complex to keep the community lively,” adding that he will be installing solar light by next weekend which will enable teams to play at night.
Gateway to the stadium
“We want the EBK stadium to be on the spotlight. We`re presently working on the pavilions and proper composition that would comprise of dressing rooms, toilet facility among others to possibly host international matches.
He however thanked his Excellency, President Ernest Bai Koroma and Shakanders for their supports, while calling on other business houses to come on board in branding the mini complex.
When asked about Anti Drugs match against East End Lions on Friday, he replied, “It will be an interesting match and the entire populace of Western Rural will storm the stadium to support Anti Drugs”, he stated.
“Anti Drugs is our team and Friday`s match will be a new era for my constituency and the Western Rural. My ambition for sports is unquestionable and I will continue to do more even if quit politics,” he stressed.
Speaking, Awoko said: despite being a major stakeholder at the East End Lions FC, his lads have a greater ability to knock down hard on the `Killers` honoring their next week fixture.
He said: “We cannot afford losing our opening game especially against East End Lions”, he told this press. “East End Lions is a well established club to battle out with. You never know, as we have seen surprises in world soccer across the globe,” Awoko stated.
Awoko holds a forte of confidence that his lads will not only defeat East End Lions, but will tame the likes of Diamond Stars, Mighty Blackpool, FC Kallon and Ports Authority in the following fixtures.
The Ernest Bai Koroma stadium built at the outskirts of Freetown is home to a cultured portion of land size utilized by unsuspecting persons cultivating cannabis sativa. Awoko said choice of that stadium for the eagerly awaited match would create awareness and wider advocacy against drug abuse and its holistic trafficking.
“We want to expose the EBK venue to the general populace as it compliments the good efforts of the honorable of Member of Parliament in that constituency, honorable Claude Kamanda.” He, however, called on supporters to rally behind the club ahead of the premier league season.
