In an entertaining fashion, Sports journalists on past Monday tamed Sports Listeners 5-4 on post game penalties after a 2-2 draw at the Kingtom Katty field.
Steven Gerald sent Listeners in front after 14 minutes with a sublime free kick but his celebration was short-lived as Musa Sesay of SLBC leveled terms 10 minutes later. Mohamed McCarthy Bangura of Kalleone Radio raised journalists’ hope as he scored from the penalty spot to give them the lead but Chuku Robinho leveled the score for the Listeners five minutes to stoppage time.
However, Sports Journalists scored all five penalties while their counterparts scored four out of the five penalties. According to the head coach of Sports Journalists FC, Osman Kamara aka “Kondoes” the victory was a delightful one.
He said: “We`ve suffered humiliation from our opponents in our last five meetings and winning today`s match has brought renewed sprit to the team. My boys played like the Spaniards and by their performance they can match any of the Premier League clubs in the country,” he stressed.
When asked about the secret behind his side`s victory, he replied; “Commitment, unity and hard work are the underlining factors” he disclosed. He further expressed optimism of his side securing a place in the final.
Head coach of Sports Listeners, Abayomi Williams however said complacency was responsible for his side’s defeat.
“Our defense was terrible which gave our opponents an edge in the second half, but we fought hard to level terms with them. I would have preferred losing to junior teams than succumbing to Sports Journalist FC, but again that is football,” he said.
German continued; “We should accept the result and get back to the drawing board and see our best we can bounce back,” the gala is a reconciliation showpiece organized by Sports Journalists with the aim of healing the wounds within the football family.
