Paul Kamara & Unisa Awoko Sesay
Former Chairman of Western Area Football Association (WAFA), Alhaji Unisa Alim Awoko Sesay has taken a swipe on the Minister of Sports, Hon. Paul Kamara following his recent remarks and suggestions to replace the premier league with a Nation Wide League.
According to the Minister, the premier clubs have not met the criteria of the 2009 Bamboi Declaration and consequently the poor performance of local clubs in CAF Competitions.
He opined that replacing the Premier League will bring on board various groups of people including bike riders, market women and schools who will contribute positively to the growth of football and hence improve the performance of the clubs at international level.
Reacting to Paul`s comments, Alhaji Awoko Sesay who is a founding member of the premier league described the Minister`s statement as unfortunate and a clear move to bring the beautiful game into disrepute.
He said, “I could imagine such words coming from a sober minded football administrator, he is really a mad man, otherwise he could have taught and done better,” in the first instant, it a blatant interference on the part of the minister as he has no constitutional powers to take such a decision. We are going to resist every attempt on that move. Awoko however threatens the Minister with court action if….
